Youth Members

The number of patrols in the troop varies with the number of Scouts. We try to maintain 6 - 10 members in a patrol and make periodic adjustments as necessary. The troop also has a Venture Crew that consists of all Scouts who have attained the rank of 1st Class and are at least 14 years old. Other Scouts that have achieved the rank of 1st Class and are not yet 14 years old can be invited by the Venture Crew to participate in their activities.

Distinguished Scout

Awarded on recommendation of the Scouts of Troop 410 and approved by the Scoutmaster to a youth who has, through his "career" in Scouting, truly distinguished himself through all aspects of the Scout Oath and Law. Nominations for this award are not solicited but result as the natural outcome of the recognition by fellow Scouts of worth.

Knotmaster

Started in August, 2004

Awarded to a Scout who demonstrates in a single campout, his mastery of the knots of Scouting by tying the seven basic knots (square, sheet bend (although not required anymore, we still consider it a basic knot to learn),  two-half hitches, tautline hitch, bowline, timber hitch, clove hitch); whip the end of a rope (not fuse); tie the square lashing, diagonal lashing, and shear (tripod) lashing;, and tie the short splice, eye splice, and end splice. In recognition, the scout will be presented a Turk's Head neckerchief slide.
