Welcome to Troop 410

To the New Scout and His Parents:

I want to welcome you to Troop 410 on behalf of all the Scouts and Leaders. Our programs are varied and exciting, and I am sure you will have a great time. This letter provides you some information about Troop 410 and our expectations of you as a Scout.

We meet every Tuesday night, year round, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We also have an outing every month of the year. The Scouts plan the yearly program in August.

The Troop Rules and Regulations is available on the Forms/Files page. This document describes the organization of the Troop, uniform requirements, dues, and many other important items. Please take time to read this over. Questions can be directed to any adult leader.

Boy Scouts follow the Patrol method. Six to ten Scouts form a Patrol, and several Patrols make up the Troop. We will work with you to assign you to a Patrol.

As a Scout, you should observe the following:

1.       You should complete an application as soon as possible. You can pick one up when you visit a Troop meeting. This will register you with the Boy Scouts of America. If you are currently registered, this will transfer you into the Troop. An initial fee of $40 is required for all newly registering Scouts. This covers registration, Boy’s Life magazine, medical insurance, 410 numerals, and a Troop neckerchief, T-shirt, and rope. The initial fee for graduating Webelos and for currently registered Scouts transferring from another Troop is $25.

2.       Monthly dues are $6.00. These dues are used to establish a sense of responsibility in the Scouts and to provide the funds needed for weekly and monthly program supplies. Additionally, they cover the yearly rechartering of the Troop. There are no additional yearly dues. Scouts must have their dues up to date for advancement and to participate on outings.

3.       You should complete a Personal Health and Medical Record as soon as possible. One is available on the Forms/Files page. This Troop uses the Class 3 Personal Health and Medical History. This requires a medical evaluation and should be updated yearly. These forms are required by the BSA and are carried on every outing so that we may properly provide emergency medical care if necessary.

4.       Uniforms are an important part of Scouting. You will be expected to wear the proper uniform to all Scout functions. You should refer to the Troop Rules and Regulations for the current uniform requirements.

5.       Scouts are expected to be on time for meetings and activities. Scouts are expected not to leave during meetings. If a Scout must leave, he should obtain permission from the adult in charge.

6.             Scouts are expected to exhibit good behavior at all times. Discipline will be enforced. Scouts may be reprimanded, sent home, or suspended depending on the severity of the incident. Please be sure to read the Code of Conduct in the Troop Rules and Regulations.

7.             Scouts should purchase the Scout Handbook. They should bring the Handbook, paper, and pencil to every meeting.

The Troop welcomes parents who would like to help. Positions include: a) Committee Members who meet monthly, provide for the administration of the Troop, and provide for Boards of Review; b) Assistant Scoutmasters who meet weekly with the boys, go on outings, and provide ongoing guidance, counseling, and instruction; and c) Merit Badge Counselors who instruct individuals or groups in areas of their expertise. Adult registration is $30 and includes all items the Scout is presented. Adults receive Scouting magazine in place of Boy’s Life. Please contact the Committee Chairman or the Scoutmaster if you would like to register.

All parents, regardless of registration, are welcome to meetings and on outings. If you plan on attending outings with the Troop, you should complete a Class 3 Personal Health and Medical History, which we keep on file in case of emergency. Please let the Scoutmaster know if you plan on attending an outing so we can plan for your food and tentage, as you will be part of the adult patrol for the activity.

A personal equipment list is available on the Forms/Files page. This provides a starting point for items Scouts need for the monthly outdoor activities. Any of the adult leaders can provide you with recommendations on specific items.

A current Troop roster is available on the Who's Who page. It includes the names of all registered Scouts and adult leaders.

Also included on this web site is the yearly calendar presenting the events for the upcoming months. The Scouts finalize these events in the month prior to the activities.

I am sure I speak for all the Scout, Leaders, and Parents when I say again,

Welcome to Troop 410.
